Ann M

Ms. Ann began her musical journey technically before she learned how to read, tapping out the theme songs from the favorite movies of her childhood on the miniature electric piano her parents purchased for her. Shortly thereafter, she began studying piano in earnest at age five, and later chose to begin studying the violin at age 10. Over the years, Ann has performed in chamber ensembles, university orchestras, and in community ensembles. With each experience, as a player, conductor, and instructor, she has gained a deeper appreciation for the joy of sharing music with others. Although she is currently earning a doctorate in microbiology, her love of playing music and teaching music has never dimmed, and she is excited about working with the students of the Allegro Pearland Academy of Music as they embark on their journeys toward becoming musicians.

Austin State University with a Bachelor’s in Music Education and a Master’s in Piano Pedagogy. Initially, she wanted to be a band director, but Alex found more joy in teaching piano. Alvin K

Born and raised in Houston, Texas, Mr. Alvin revealed great promise as a musician at an early age. Moving to New York in 1983, Alvin became the first African American piano player to play for the Tony Award-winning production of “CATS” at the tender age of 16-years old. After a critically acclaimed 3-year run on Broadway, he returned to Houston and shortly thereafter earned his Bachelor of Arts in Music Performance from Texas Southern University in Houston, the same prestigious program that produced Kirk Whalum, Yolanda Adams, and Lonnie Smith.

Alvin then embarked upon an international professional career, which allowed him to span the globe and share the stage with Jazz and R&B legends such as Ahmad Jamal, McCoy Tyner, Gerald Levert, and El Debarge. The philosophy of this man and his music is as simple as it is complex. He says, “In the scope of the inception of my music, my vision is based on love and passion.”

He poses the question, ”Why do what you do, without loving what you do?” He believes that he is… part of a generation that has placed passion apart from music. “But I believe that without passion and God – there is no music.”

Robert A

Mr. Robert began his music education nineteen years ago at the age of four. From a very early age, he was introduced to the masters from the past who made a big impression on the young boy. He received a former music education for twelve years where he participated in various music festivals and concerts in San Juan, Puerto Rico where he was born and raised. In these concerts, he was able to show his love for classical music as well as typical traditional Latin American music.

In 2016 he and his family moved to the state of Florida where he continued his music education and pursued a degree in arts. During this time, he partook in various music theory classes where he exceeded and further deepened his appreciation for music not just as a form of art but as a skill and discipline. This molded his philosophy on music teaching that there are two main pillars when it comes to music; there is the ability to play, but there is also the knowledge of how to play. Robert believes that understanding what you are playing is just as important for the student as the ability to play.

In the year 2022, Mr. Robert moved again to the beautiful city of Houston where he now pursues to give piano classes and share his deep appreciation of music and piano playing. A class with Mr. Robert is a class that values discipline, analysis, and technique while maintaining a light atmosphere.

Tom S

Mr. Tom, a passionate guitar instructor and skilled songwriter, hails from the vibrant music scene of Houston, Texas. His musical journey, spanning over five decades, began in the Elementary Band Program at his school, a testament to his unwavering love for music.

Choosing trombone as his instrument, he participated in concert band and, later, in High School, Concert Band, Marching Band, and Jazz/Stage Band (playing third chair trombone and, later, guitar). He also took music theory and music appreciation courses.

At 12, Mr. Tom received his first six-string guitar, which was acoustic. Soon after, he bought his first electric guitar (Gibson SG Standard '61 Maestro Vibrola), which he still has to this day. Mr. Tom then joined garage bands, which quickly graduated to "Battle of the Bands" and high school dances. Following the natural progression of music groups of the era, clubs and concerts followed.

During these years, Mr. Tom's influences were traditional and progressive Rock, Blues, Country, Americana, Funk, and jazz. After a few years, he began playing in gospel music groups and ministries. During the next 30 years, he remained active in church music ministries, songwriting, and home recording and has maintained a small home recording studio to this day. Still playing, composing, and recording on guitar, bass, keyboard, harmonica, and drums. Mr. Tom has always had a mentoring spirit and enjoys teaching others. He works with all ages and has recent experience with ages as early as six.

Mr. Tom recently began teaching in the Fort Bend Independent School District After School Guitar Program. He was the instructor for Guitar 101 for the Spring Semester (4 classes per week consisting of 6 to 11 students ranging from 6 to 9 years old). He developed custom YouTube Training Videos for the classes, so each student had a study video of their recital song, including very current requested favorites.

Mr. Tom has lived through some of the most revolutionary music eras, the 50s/60s/70s, and he carries that spirit of innovation with him to this day. His love for music knows no bounds, as he maintains an open mind to all styles, with a particular fondness for blues. His versatility is not just limited to music styles, but also in his teaching approach, as he specializes in customized lessons tailored to each student's natural skillset, interests, and desires.
